Final Assignment

My expectations as a student in this class were that I was going to be taught helpful tools that I can get from UHD, as well as getting more familiar with the campus, and knowing where things are located. They were met by you showing us around in the library and as well as the speakers that would come in to our class and talk about how UHD helped them as well as explaining to us about how to register for your classes early. Another way that they were met were by you showing us how to access the library database and getting more familiar with different technology on the web that can help us later on with our classes. I believe that all my expectations that I had for this class were met.

Some features that I would like to see added would probably be, a small tour around the whole campus because it will make someone new to the campus more comfortable and they will be able to know where everything is located. I think everything implemented into the course is helpful and good. The most positive aspect of this course is that it was  actually fun learning about the different topics that you showed us especially building our own website and giving us tips in order to do better.
The only negative thing were the technical difficulties we would have in class since we couldn't hear the videos. I think this course is full of great information and is helpful for a freshman especially since it teaches you many websites and tips that will be useful in the workplace and in school.

Nike is an American multinational corporation that promotes and designs athletic apparel, equipment and footwear. Nike is a major sponsor for many professional athletic teams such as the U.S. National Soccer Team as well as many others. Nike is in every social media website there is, and mostly everybody has or has owned something that is from Nike. Nike promotes their product by putting professional athletes in their advertisements, this helps influence consumers that look up to these people buy the product since it gets them one step closer to being like them. This company appeals to people by saying that they will be able to perform better if you buy some Nike cleats or running shoes. All these ads come out in Youtube, Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook and on Instagram since they have their own page to show their new product to everybody. This helps promote their product since there millions of users that use these social media websites.
On the large scale Nike is on every social media network even if they don’t want to be publicised. Nike has taken over the shoe industry influencing males, females, adults, teens, and everything in between. By these influences, also because the social media is available to everyone, nobody is going to stop talking about Nike shoes. Either bad or good publicity both will only do good for Nike because just by talking about them the news is being spread. Based on our sources we conclude that twitter, instagram, and Youtube to be best suited to commercialize their products. Twitter is the best way to inform everyone one of their new products is out. The fast consistent rate at which people retweet and share something new is something to not look past. With Nike’s pregrown popularity there’s no way  Nike isn’t using Twitter. The second Nike tweets about a new product the word would spread like wild fire reaching everyone who has a phone and in this case, everyone. Nike, being a company based on style and practicality, can use instagram as a showcase to the world. Instagrams picture base app allows consumers to actually view the product even before the release date, hyping up the product over time until its due. The use of Youtube as Nikes third best selling strategy is very unorthodox because it can be the most expensive. The cost of putting a commercial/ad on Youtube can cost up to 300,000 dollars a day (on the home page). Although it may cost Nike to use Youtube as a marketing scheme they can also use it without actually using it. Fans of athletes that nike sponsor are constantly uploading videos of their gameplay and because nike sponsors them they’re  constantly wearing their logo.
In the social media “world” there are five main outlets that most companies use including Nike. Following list will include how and examples of nike using these outlets to maximise their sales, loyalty etc.
-Facebook- Being the biggest social media outlet in the world and having a range from all ages nike utilizes this outlet to do almost everything from news updates, ads and testimonials. Facebook allowing so many comments and likes etc, Nike is able to see feed back from everyone around the world allowing them to tweak and learn from mistakes easier.
-Twitter- Twitter is the more younger and easier to spread social media. Making news and releases so “hyped” and up to date news. Allowing small messages nike must make messages short and straight forward. With Pictures and messages spreading quick they are allowed to use this platform from everything from giveaways, competitions, and releases.
For example the release of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 “Red Octobers” that released out of no where only users following Nike’s twitter account got the notification of the flash release.  shoes that was hyped up for over a year with leaked pictures of the shoes on twitter. The news of the release spread like quick fire with shoe magazines and online sources following it sell out in mere seconds and minutes. A prime example of how quickly things on twitter can spread and Nike utilizing it to its potential in occurrence of their shoes and loyal customers who follow them.
-Instagram- Instagram being solely form of media outlet for posting pictures and short videos, Nike uses this platform to release pictures of releases of clothing, shoes and even mini commercials that will interest those who follow. Nike being the most followed apparel brand on instagram with 7,932,338+ followers and the most used hashtags with 33,950,786 post using their hashtag #Nike (totems/list) . A user searching the #Nike in the hashtag section will arrive at millions of pictures that contain nike clothing, shoes, Womens , mens, anything that has Nike product in it. Providing Nike free, unpaid advertisements from everyone around the world. Nike also uploads pictures and testimonials for events and new products.
-Pinterest- Pinterest being similar to instagram people are allowed to use this outlet to search things of interest as well as post pictures, difference being no video but also that on pinterest you are allowed to “pin” stuff which lets the user keep it on their “board” allowing them to go back to see the pics they like at any time. As well as people they follow can see these pins. This allows nike to post a pic and watch it spread from each user although a little slower than most social platforms , pinterest being one of the newest out of the bunch and less users. but it allows users searches to be more specific.
-Youtube- Youtube being the second most used social media site in the world, with thousands of videos being uploaded daily, and videos going viral in mere seconds with millions of views in a matter of hours. Nike uses this to post their commercials and testimonials that can be viewed everywhere in the world daily.
A strength that Nike has on Facebook is the fact that the social teams are obviously lucky in that they have a huge number of athletes around whom they can create and share content, so the global football page displays a huge amount of content featuring the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta, as well as a lot of product-related posts. creating a lot of people enthusiastic about about buy the new $700.00 soccer shoes. One of many opportunities that Nike offers is one for runners and they responds to a huge number of people to discuss their training schedule and give motivational advice. For example, if you’ve just bought a pair of Nike football boots and the brand then personally responds to you with training advice and a few words of encouragement, then you’re definitely going to consider that brand when you buy sports products in future and may even recommend them to your friends. The threats that i encountered is Nike is exposed to the international nature of trade. It buys and sells in different currencies and so costs and margins are not stable over long periods of time. Such an exposure could mean that Nike may be manufacturing and/or selling at a loss. This is an issue that faces all global brands. Nike being the empire that is know for has very few weaknesses but one is that it does have a diversified range of sports products. However, the income of the business is still heavily dependent upon its share of the footwear market. This may leave it vulnerable if for any reason its market share erodes. Maybe threats and weaknesses don't point as strong as the rest but nevertheless they still point to the recommendation of the brand through the social media sites.

Blog Assignment 7:

Article: http://www.wired.com/2014/09/apple-privacy-policy/

This article is talking about how Apple CEO Tim Cook sent out a letter talking about how your data is safe with Apple. Even though people's iClouds got hacked into and that created panic among consumers. They say that they don't look through your messages and emails to see what you like. They also say that they don't let nobody access their servers nor grant government agencies permission to look through them. They try to state how they aren't like Google in the fact that they actually do go through your stuff without saying their name.

I believe that Apple is actually safe and they try to protect your information. I believe that the people got hacked into because they probably exposed their information out there or don't have it protected. In the iPhone 6, it offers a lot of protection especially with the Touch ID. I believe that if you just protect your data and change your passwords often then you will have a less chance of getting hacked. I know Google looks more through your stuff then Apple does, and it is good that the CEO Tim Cook is letting the people know they are being protected.

http://www.wired.com/2014/10/ebola-vs-privacy/

This article talks about how you should be able to know the privacy of the patient that had Ebola in Dallas. Also you should be able to know who he came into contact with, where he went, if we had contact with children. Basically follow all of his paths of where he went. Also, if you feel that someone has Ebola next to you or you can tell that they are somewhat sick then you should contact the authorities or somebody because it is not bad to invade someone's privacy if they are sick.

I believe that you should be able to know where the patient has gone or has gone into contact with because he has a deadly virus. You should also make sure to notify somebody if you feel that someone has Ebola symptoms because then they can spread it to somebody else and it is just going to keep spreading and spreading.

http://www.cnet.com/news/tim-cook-so-let-me-be-clear-im-proud-to-be-gay/

This article talks about the Apple CEO Tim Cook is proud to be gay. He has only told a certain amount of people, but has tried to maintain some privacy with the public. He also says that most of his colleagues know he is gay and they don't treat him differently. He supports many Gay movements and he says that it has given him much confidence to be himself.

I believe that it doesn't matter if Tim Cook is gay or not. He actually helps to set a good example for many gay people since he is the CEO of a major company and isn't afraid to hide it. Many people try to keep it private like Tim Cook was trying to do, but I believe that it helps to show that it doesn't matter if someone is gay or not; everyone is different and is able to accomplish many different things.

Privacy:

For Gmail:

They give you the chance on protecting your Google account with a 2 step verification which involves your password and you can also set up your phone.  It also lets you manage who can send you notifications and make comments on your stuff. You can also go incognito mode so pages that you open and files that you download aren't recorded in your history.

For my settings, I have the 2 step verification code and I also have certain people can send me notifications. I rarely use the incognito mode

For Blackboard:

You can choose what you want to make open to the public such as  your Email Address
Work Information (Company, Job Title, Work Phone, Work Fax), and Additional Contact Information (Home Phone, Mobile Phone, Website).
2.      You also have the option of making your information come out in the user directory. You can also choose if you want somebody not to email you and have the option of taking your name out of the roster.

My settings are set to not show any personal information and to not be included in the directory. I also have no one blocked and I have my name in the roster of the classes that I am in.

For Yahoo Mail:

You can choose how you want your email to be viewed and you can choose if you want the full standard of Yahoo mail or the basic. They have similar settings as Gmail since you can choose who you want to send you notifications and you can change your password whenever you want to.

My settings involve only specific people that I want sending me emails. Also, I change my password often so I can have a less chance on getting my information hacked.

For YouTube:

For YouTube you can choose if you want your liked videos and playlists private. You also have the option to keep your subscriptions private. You can also choose what ads you want to watch and choose to opt some out if you want to.

My settings are basic; I don't mind my playlist not being private nor my subscriptions. I just make sure to keep my password secure.

I feel that they all have similar settings in the way that you can choose who you want to receive messages and so forth. I also believe that they are all secure, but I think Gmail is the most secure. The reason I think this is because with Gmail you can use that 2 Step Verification and also be able to change your password using your mobile device.  The one that I believe is least secure is probably YouTube since people can manage to look at your videos no matter what. I feel secure in using all the services because I have nothing to hide, the only one that I mostly use though is my Gmail.

Progress Report 1

We will be researching mostly about how social media affects an individual in the workplace. We will provide different examples of how social media has gotten individuals in trouble with their boss. We will also look at the pros that social media can provide for an individual such as putting themselves out there so companies and businesses can notice them. As well as the cons to see how social media has many disadvantages and how you have to basically filter what you put on your social media.

In our group we will split up the research and the Prezi so that everyone will research and design a slide about what each group members found about the topic at hand. Jesus Ortuno will be in charge of researching the effects that social media bring onto the workplace as well as provide an example. Miguel Salvo will also do some research especially on the regulations that are put on employees by their workplace. Saidev Rao will focus on the design of the presentation and to make sure everything is in order. Thanh Tran will focus on the pros and cons in social media and the workplace. He will also make sure that the presentation has no technical or grammar errors. At the end we will all split up the work to make sure everyone did an equal share, and to make sure everybody knows what each slide is about.
The sources that we are looking at using are mostly different websites on the internet. One example is, http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-fired-2011-5?op=1, this site shows some perfect examples of what the business is like and how it can all change because of the social media. Furthermore, we will use Google.com to research the percentage of employers that actually go through your social media prior to hiring you. We will also go deeper into looking at the statistics of how many people have actually gotten in trouble due to their social media profile.
